EDIT ME — powerful verbs

quote mark

Read this sentence:

She was going to the club tonight and dance until dawn.

Sounds fun, right? Sure.

Now read this:

She was going to the club and boot-scoot until dawn.

See the difference one small word makes? I’m not entirely certain boot-scoot is a verb, but what the hell? We’re writers, and we can twist the language however we’d like! What we’re focusing on today are power verbs.

kill — slaughter

squash — annihilate

cook — pan-fry

drink — guzzle

love — worship

here are a few more:

acquire

achieve

anticipate

compel

conform

desire

eliminate

embody

embrace

evoke

highlight

promote

rebel

simulate

strengthen

transcend

undermine

verify

See how strong a small word can be? These words could make your sentences bestseller quality vs. ho-hum.

Thanks for reading,

Em~
